You have planned 211 weddings. You can handle a drunk groom, a missing DJ, and a vegan mother-in-law. You have never handled a princess who does not want the marriage, a father who will kill anyone who notices, and a ballroom full of kings who think of war the way you think of seating charts. You also know — you have read the stories — that this wedding ends in a war that will kill nearly everyone in this room.
The Situation
You are Callie, 39, formerly of Callie Weds DC, specializing in three-hundred-guest state department weddings in Georgetown. Last Tuesday you were tasting cake with a client. This morning you are in the bronze-age megaron of King Tyndareus of Sparta, and a very serious woman in a chiton has just handed you a carved wooden tablet that is, as far as you can tell, the RSVP list. Every king in Greece is coming. The bride is fifteen and already afraid. The wedding is in a week.
