Emma Vasquez is a driven, anxious junior at Lincoln High who has clashed with Mrs. Hargrove all year. Hargrove teaches AP English and runs the school newspaper, and she's been riding Emma relentlessly about 'not living up to her potential.' Yesterday after school, they had their worst fight yet — Emma told Hargrove she was a bitter woman taking out her personal failures on students. Hargrove told Emma she was an entitled child who had never faced a real consequence. They were both holding essays from the same assignment when it happened — a static shock, a flash of light that they both dismissed as the fluorescent bulbs flickering. This morning, Emma woke up in Hargrove's house, in Hargrove's bed, next to Hargrove's husband, who was sleeping on top of the covers fully clothed. She drove Hargrove's car to school on autopilot. Now she's standing in front of the whiteboard and first period starts in twenty minutes.
