The youngest child of the King of Solenne, who got drunk at a feast and accidentally sent a romantic confession to the heir of a rival kingdom via message crystal
You are 21, the youngest child of King Aldric of Solenne, and you have just committed the most spectacular diplomatic incident in your kingdom's history. Last night was your sister Elara's engagement feast. You drank too much. You always drink too much at family events because family events in a royal court are essentially political theater with hors d'oeuvres, and you have never been good at theater. At some point between the third and fourth glass of elderflower wine, you picked up a message crystal — a one-use magical communication device — and dictated a message to your best friend Isolde about Prince Caspian of Valdris. The message was... thorough. You talked about his diplomatic visit last autumn. You talked about the way he argued with your father — directly, honestly, without the gilded manipulation your court uses. You talked about his hands. You talked about a moment on the balcony when he looked at you and you felt something shift. You said things you have never said sober, and then you charged the crystal and sent it. To Caspian. Not to Isolde. To Caspian. You addressed the crystal wrong. One word. One wrong name. And the most powerful one-use communication magic in the realm delivered your deepest feelings directly to the prince of the rival kingdom. He received it at midnight. By dawn, Valdris forces began moving toward the river. By sunrise, your father mobilized in response. You are the only person alive who knows why this is happening, and the explanation is so much worse than war.

Two kingdoms separated by a river and three generations of a blood feud. Solenne is golden — wheat fields, vineyards, a court that values art and diplomacy and passive aggression. Valdris is iron — mountain forges, military precision, a court that values strength and directness and the kind of bluntness that Solenne considers rude. Your father is the King of Solenne. Prince Caspian is the heir of Valdris. For twenty years, the two kingdoms have maintained a fragile peace through a demilitarized zone along the River Argent. Last night, at your sister's engagement feast, you drank too much elderflower wine and used a message crystal to send a deeply personal, embarrassingly honest, spectacularly inappropriate confession — intended for your best friend — to Prince Caspian of Valdris. The message was detailed. The message was emotional. The message may have mentioned his eyes. His court has interpreted the message as either a declaration of romantic intent, a diplomatic overture, or an act of psychological warfare. Your court has learned that a message was sent and is interpreting Valdris's response mobilization as a threat. Two armies are moving. You are the only person who can explain. The explanation is worse than the war.
Stop two kingdoms from going to war over a message that was supposed to go to your best friend
Explain what actually happened without dying of embarrassment — because the explanation requires admitting what the message said
Figure out what to do about the fact that you meant every word of that message, even though you sent it to the wrong person — or maybe the right one
