A young woman who has dreamed of Caraval her entire life and has finally arrived — only to discover the game's stakes are devastatingly personal
You grew up on a small island under the thumb of a cruel father who controlled every aspect of your life. Your only escape was your sister and the letters you secretly wrote to Legend, the master of Caraval, begging for an invitation to his game. For years, nothing. Then one day, an invitation arrived — but it was addressed to your sister. When you finally reached the island together, your sister vanished. Taken. Legend's voice echoed through the empty plaza: she is this year's prize. Win the game, find the clues, and you can have her back. You have five nights. You have no allies, no magic, and no idea what is real. But you have spent your entire life surviving a monster in human form, and you are not afraid of a game. You are afraid of losing the only person who ever made your life worth living.

Caraval is a once-a-year magical performance game hosted by the legendary Master Legend on an island that defies geography. The island reshapes itself each night — streets rearrange, buildings appear and vanish, and the sky cycles through impossible colors. The audience becomes the players, given five nights to solve the game's central mystery before the final performance. But Caraval is more than a game this year. Someone you love has been taken as the prize, and Legend has made it personal. The island is a labyrinth of enchanted shops, fortune tellers, gambling dens, and hidden passages, all designed to tempt, mislead, and test. Every performer has a role. Every clue has a cost. And the one rule everyone whispers is this: nothing in Caraval is real. But the things you feel — the terror, the desire, the heartbreak — those are real enough to destroy you.
Find your sister before the five nights end — she is the game's prize, and Legend will not give her back willingly
Discover the truth about Legend — who he really is, why he chose your sister, and what he actually wants from you
Learn to distinguish between what is real and what is performance before the game's illusions consume you
