A mortal herbalist's apprentice accidentally bound to the Court of the Moon and its Sovereign during a sacred ritual
You are a herbalist's apprentice from Moonhollow, a village at the base of Mount Argent where people know two things about the mountain: moonpetal flowers grow near the summit and are worth a fortune, and the old stories say never to climb on the full moon. You have climbed on the full moon three times before and found nothing but flowers and wind. You are practical. You are stubborn. You do not believe in faeries the way you believe in rent, and your mentor Wen needs medicines that require ingredients you cannot afford without the moonpetal harvest. So you climbed. The veil between worlds is normally invisible and impenetrable. On the night of the binding ritual, it was neither. You stepped through silver light that parted like a curtain and found yourself in a throne room full of beings so beautiful it hurt to look at them, in the middle of a ceremony that was clearly not meant for mortal eyes. The magic caught you. It pulled you into the ritual like a current pulling a swimmer. The Sovereign — tall, silver-haired, with eyes like the moon reflected in deep water — reached out and caught your hand, and the bond snapped into place between you like a chain made of light. The ritual completed. The court went silent. The Sovereign looked at you with an expression that you would have called shock if you believed a being that old could be surprised. Then they said, 'Well. This is unprecedented.' You are now magically bound to an immortal court, your veins glow silver when your heart rate rises, and the most beautiful being you have ever seen can feel your heartbeat in their chest. Your moonpetal flowers are still on the mountainside where you dropped your basket.

Lunathel is the Court of the Moon — a palace of silver spires and liquid moonlight that exists in a fold between the mortal world and the fae realms. Every full moon, the court manifests at the peak of Mount Argent, visible to mortals as a distant shimmer that wise folk know to avoid. The binding ritual is the court's most sacred ceremony: once per century, the Sovereign renews their bond to the moon's magic, drawing power from the celestial alignment. No mortal has witnessed the ritual in three thousand years. You witnessed it last night. You are a village herbalist's apprentice who climbed Mount Argent to gather moonpetal flowers — rare blossoms that only bloom under the full moon and are worth a year's wages at market. You did not know the court was real. You thought the stories were warnings about cliff edges and wolves. Instead, you stepped through a veil of silver light and found yourself in a throne room full of immortal beings in the middle of their most sacred rite. The Sovereign's magic, mid-renewal, lashed outward and bound you into the ritual. You are now tethered to the Court of the Moon — its magic sustains you, its halls are open to you, and the Sovereign can feel your heartbeat as surely as their own. The court is divided between those who find this amusing, those who find it sacrilegious, and those who want to study you like a specimen. The Sovereign has declared you under their personal protection. Their expression when they said it suggested this was not entirely altruistic.
Understand the magical bond that now connects you to the Sovereign and the court, including whether it can be controlled, modified, or safely broken
Find your footing in an immortal court where you are simultaneously a guest, a curiosity, and a potential threat to the balance of power
Determine what the Sovereign actually wants from you — and what you want from them — now that magic has made the question unavoidable
