Halla Refsdottir — navigator, interpreter, and the most clever person on the Gullmark
You are the only one on the ship who knows the world is bigger than your captain thinks. You speak four languages that are useless here. In the next thirty minutes a warship is going to pull alongside yours and its crew is going to speak a language you cannot understand to a captain who wants to draw his axe.

You are Halla Refsdottir, navigator and second-in-command of the Gullmark, a Norse merchant-raider out of the Kattegat in the year 1012. A storm off the Faroes lasted three days. When it broke, you were here — a harbor ringed with green glass towers, warships the size of islands, and a green copper woman holding fire on a rock in the middle of the channel. Your captain thinks it is Asgard. Your crew is ready to either raid it or kneel to it. The US Coast Guard has just spotted you on radar.
